LIDE: 16th International Meeting to Debate Economic Relations, Italo-Brazilian Integration and Sports

- Event held by LIDE, to bring together 160 businessmen in Italy. It will be the largest group of Brazilian CEOs that the country has received all at the same time

LIDE - Grupo de Lideres Empresariais (LIDE - Group of Business Leaders), presided over by Brazilian businessman Joao Doria Jr., will be holding its 16th International Meeting from October 5th through 11th, at the Hotel St. Regis, in Rome, Italy. An annual event, the International Meeting is in its 16th year, and it is the first Brazilian initiative to bring together businessmen to strengthen relations and debate important issues concerning corporations and governments of the different countries.

With the aim of fostering a debate on politics and economics in Europe, and raising essential issues for these countries, the 16th International Meeting will have the following subjects as part of its central theme, “Economic Relations and the Integration of Brazil and Italy:”

  • Italy-Brazil investment opportunities;
  • Industrial investments between Italy and Brazil;
  • Technological development and opportunities generated by programs for innovation in Brazil.

In addition to the participation of major Brazilian CEOs and Italian businessmen, there will also be present officials from the two governments, including Guido Mantega,Brazil’sMinister of the Treasury, Fernando Pimentel, Brazil’s Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Commerce, Aloizio Mercadante, Brazil’s Minister of Science and Technology, Robson Andrade, President of the CNI - Confederacao Nacional da Industria do Brazil [National Confederation of Industry of Brazil], Paolo Romani, Italy’s Minister of Economic Development, and Emma Marcegaglia, President of Confindustria.

Other special guests such as Gherardo La Francesca, Italy’s ambassador to Brazil, Jose Viegas, Brazil’s ambassador to Italy, Jose Eduardo Cardozo, Brazil’s Minister of Justice, Jaques Wagner, Governor of the state of Bahia, Brazil, Marconi Perillo, Governor of the state of Goias, Brazil, Eduardo Campos, Governor of the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, Federal Deputy Marco Maia, President of the Chamber of Deputies, Brazil, among others, will also honor the event with their presence.

Edemir Pinto, President of BM&F Bovespa, Brazil’s principal institution for the brokering of capital market operations and the only securities, commodities and futures Exchange in operation in Brazil, and a member of the Parliamentary Commission on Brazil - Italy Collaboration [Comissao Parlamentar de Colaboracao Brasil - Italia], Deputy Ricardo Tripoli (PSDB-SP), are some of the personalities who will be taking part in the debate agenda.

The 1st Meeting took place in 1995 with eight pairs of CEOs at Club Med. Subsequently, with the huge growth of the project, the Meeting began to migrate to international destinations.  The first such destination was Uruguay (Punta Del Este) in 2001, and in following years, countries such as: Mexico (Cancun), South Africa (Sun City), Aruba (Caribbean), Chile (Santiago), Argentina (Bariloche and Mendoza), Portugal (Lisbon), the Dominican Republic (Cap Cana) and Colombia (Cartagena).
