WOLVERHAMPTON, England, December 16, 2011 -

Parcel carrier APC Overnight has  reported that record volumes of parcels are being handled in the run up to Christmas.  The Wolverhampton based company just set a new record of 101,015 parcels a night. Compared with last year, volumes are up by over 10,000 parcels a night. These figures suggest online sales are increasing and APC Overnight has seen a steady increase in business from Internet-based companies throughout the year.

APC Overnight is the largest overnight carrier in terms of number of depots with over 120 branches countrywide giving it a strong local presence.  By being closer to its customers it has been able to provide industry-leading reliability and service and this has been particularly notable during adverse winter weather. The company also handles shipments of perishable and delicate goods such as food and drink, which are popular around Christmas, and more companies are selecting these special “Handled with Care” services that ensure goods arrive on time in perfect condition.

To ensure a record number of parcels reach their nationwide destinations, additional resources have been implemented at the APC’s National Sortation Hub in Wolverhampton and at its dedicated Scottish Sortation Hub in Bellshill. The network’s local depots throughout the UK have also called in additional assistance.

“Christmas is our busiest period of the year and we expect to process and deliver significantly higher volumes of parcels than any previous year. To maximise the strength of our service an additional 100 people will join the team at our national sortation hub and our local depot partners are employing extra resources to ensure that parcels are delivered. APC Overnight and its 120 plus depot network is in a better position than any other parcel courier to provide exceptional service to its customers this Christmas,” said APC Overnight’s Managing Director, Ivor Skinner.

Wine retailers Slurp, Tanners and ND John Wine Merchants rely on APC’s the next day Wine Delivery Service to fulfil orders, and with Christmas on the horizon their orders are booming. Cider maker H Weston &  Sons and Wye Valley Brewery also appreciate the reliability of the service. Food companies using APC’s special services include Kernowsashimi, Well Hung Meat, Chestnut Meats, J W Mettrick & Son, pieminister, The Cheese Society and Gower Cottage Brownies.
