- The new Revlok mezzanine floor has increased storage space by 25% at the Stornoway Fishermen's Co-operative

ROCHDALE, England, October 20, 2010 - Stornoway Fishermen's Co-operative is a thriving business located on the
Hebridean Isle of Lewis, just off Scotland's west coast.

The Co-operative was originally formed in 1977 by a group of local
fishing vessel owners whose main occupation is inshore prawn fishing. In
1998, the business moved to its current larger premises in the Stornoway
harbour area.

Today, the Co-operative operates as fish selling agents, ship chandlers,
ice suppliers and fish retailers. The success of the decision to diversify
and expand the range of products sold in the ship chandlery shop created an
urgent need for more storage space.

This was achieved by installing a Revlok mezzanine floor, which increased
the building's floor area by 25% without the expense and inconvenience of
moving or extending the premises.

- Meeting the Need for Space!

From the original range of fishing gear, such as ropes, wire, oil and so
on, the chandlery shop diversified into homeware, clothing and leisure
fishing items including rods, reels and other equipment.

To provide storage space for the large increase in stock held on the
premises, it was decided to install a mezzanine floor. General Manager at the
Co-operative, Iain Mackay, had already had quotes from several mezzanine
floor manufacturers so, when the need became more pressing, it was decided to
choose Revlok, a brand of Rochdale company Doity Engineering Ltd.

"We'd looked at the Doity and Revlok websites and their mezzanines were
exactly what we needed," said Iain. "They were also very accommodating on
delivery and installation time - especially in view of our location. We also
found the price extremely competitive."

To discuss details of the project, Doity's Richard Kershaw took a flight
to meet Iain Mackay in Stornoway. The modular components were then
transported by road from Doity's Lancashire factory and shipped over to the
Isle of Lewis by ferry. A team of fitters, who followed a few days later,
completed the project in just two-and-a-half days.

The Fishermen's Co-operative platform measures 11.5m x 7.8m and - like
all Revlok mezzanines - was tailor-made. Materials used include a
pre-galvanised structural steel frame, which eliminates the need for painting
and creates a durable, rust-free finish.

A standard staircase was included with chequer-plate non-slip treads and
hand-rails made from hollow-section steel. As part of the detailed
specification, a cut-out was created in the platform to incorporate a
conveyor, which the staff use to move boxes and other items between the shop
floor and mezzanine level.

The last word goes to Iain Mackay:

"There's no doubt that the mezzanine floor has helped us make better use
of the existing building," said Iain. "By moving stock to the mezzanine
level, we now have the space to provide our customers with a wider range of
top value products!"
