GLOBALE Rückversicherungs-AG Achieves Significant Profit in 2009

Dr. Achim Kann Resigns From the Executive Board to Join the Supervisory Board

COLOGNE, Germany, October 25, 2010 - Due to the successful commutation of the last major relationship and
other run-off profits, GLOBALE achieved a technical result of EUR 162 million
in 2009. Together with the result of the general operations this resulted in
a net income of EUR 176 before tax and EUR 146 million after tax. Including
its accumulated profit carried forward from the previous years, GLOBALE's net
profit amounted to EUR 230 million, of which EUR 200 million was carried
forward into the revenue reserve and EUR 30 million into a new account.
Shareholders' equity increased to EUR 285 million.

Due to the successful commutations, claim reserves decreased from EUR
1,025 billion to 423 million (without subsidiaries). Following the associated
claim payments, invested assets were reduced by EUR 400 million to EUR 539
million.

Dr. Achim Kann, who took over GLOBALE Rück at the end of 2002 with a
negative equity of EUR 100 million, has moved from the Executive Board to the
Supervisory Board after successfully managing the run-off process. In the
Supervisory Board Meeting on October25, 2010, he has been appointed Chairman
of the Supervisory Board. Dr. Hubert Wagner has resigned from the Supervisory
Board. Rolf Koerfer, the prior chairman, continues as Vice Chairman and as a
member of the Presidential Committee of the Supervisor Board.

Volker D. Weisbrodt has been appointed Chief Executive Officer by the
Supervisory Board during its meeting on October 25, 2010. Since 1995, he has
been an executive board member of the Gerling Group and he is a member of the
Executive Board of GLOBALE Rück since the beginning of its run-off in 2002.
Ulrich Bley and Kay Uwe Erdmann are also members of the Executive Board.
