DELFT, The Netherlands -

- PortingXS Simplifies and Speeds up Changing Between Service Providers

Mobile users on the Isle of Man can now keep their existing number when they switch to another mobile phone operator. The three mobile operators on the island have chosen the Dutch company PortingXS to ensure that mobile number portability is handled swiftly, easily and flexibly.

Doing so, PortingXS crosses the border again, after the Channel Islands operators put the technical handling of their mobile number portability process in Dutch hands last year. In the future the company aims to introduce its method for number portability in numerous countries in Europe and beyond.

In the Netherlands, PortingXS provides services to forty of the sixty operators and processes number portability requests for major companies like Orange and Tele2. It specialises in offering processes and systems that enables phone operators to organise the switching of customers and port their numbers. To regulate number porting the Dutch phone operators set up a mutual database, carrying all the existing mobile numbers. The mechanism developed by however was complicated and expensive. We detected this gap in the market and developed our own mechanism that was simpler, cheaper and more flexible,” Ronald Vlasman, CEO of PortingXS explains. With its own database the company handles the entire technical process of number portability. The company is determined to promote this innovative solution across the rest of the world.

Although number portability is commonplace in the Netherlands, globally it is only available in fifty countries. Every country uses its own process and sometimes it can take months for a switching customer to port his mobile number. Technically speaking we can arrange number portability within a few minutes,” Vlasman states. On the Isle of Man the customer sends a text message to a special free number 12345 and five minutes later he/she is ported and able to call on his/ her new SIM card with the same number”

PortingXS is proud to say that it has implemented the system on the Isle of Man within three months, a company record. The three mobile operators chose the Dutch company to be the best for the job.
