Oracle WebLogic Server 11g Demonstrates Stellar Performance; Beats IBM Websphere’s Best Result by Over 50 Percent

ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO – October 5, 2011

News Facts

Today Oracle announced that Oracle WebLogic Server 11g (www.oracle.com/us/products/middleware/application-server/weblogic-standard-edition/index.html) , a part of Oracle Fusion Middleware (www.oracle.com/products/middleware/index.html) , and the #1 application server by both vendor share and growth, together with Oracle Linux (www.oracle.com/technologies/linux/index.html) and Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (www.oracle.com/database/index.html) running on a Cisco® Unified Computing System™ B440 M2 server set a world record dual-node result with the SPECjEnterprise2010 industry standard benchmark(1).
This world record dual-node result with Oracle WebLogic Server 11g, using a total of eight processors, delivered over 50 percent more performance than IBM WebSphere's best eight processor SPECjEnterprise2010 result running IBM DB2 9.7 on a POWER7 server(2).

Benchmark Details

The Java application server was running on a two-node Cisco Unified Computing System B440 M2 server each with four, ten-core Intel® Xeon® E7-4870 2.4 GHz processors with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology. Both the application server and database server were running Oracle Linux.
The record result achieved 26,118.67 SPECjEnterprise2010 EjOPS, the highest EjOPS per processor of any SPECjEnterprise2010 result to date, showcasing the superior performance and scalability of Oracle WebLogic Server 11g(1).
Underscoring the scalability and superior performance of Oracle’s leading application server software running on x86 hardware, Oracle WebLogic Server now holds the overall world record(3) and the best dual-node(1) benchmark results in addition to delivering the highest EjOPS per processor(1) and per core(4) of any result ever published on SPECjEnterprise 2010 benchmark.
SPECjEnterprise2010 is a Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE)-based industry standard benchmark, which tests an end-to-end technology infrastructure that includes server hardware, Java Virtual Machine (JVM), database, operating system, storage and network subsystems.
For the past decade, Oracle has consistently produced record-setting Java application server benchmarks across a broad range of hardware architectures and operating systems(5,6). For more information on Oracle’s leading results, visit: www.oracle.com/benchmarks.
