S-8215A/B Series Secondary Protection for 4S or 5S Battery Pack

NEU-ISENBURG, Germany, December 6, 2010 - The S-8215A/B Series is aimed at secondary battery protection for
lithium-ion rechargeable battery packs incorporate high-accuracy detection
and delay circuits and is ideal for 5-serial-cell-battery protection but can
be easily changed with a single jumper to accommodate 4-serial-cell-battery
packs. The overcharge detection voltage range is from 3.6V…4.7V in 50mV
increments, with an accuracy of +/-25mV. The S-8215A series features a very
low current consumption of 3.0microA max. at cell voltages 1.0V below
Overcharge Detection Voltage and only 1.7microA max. at 2.3V cell voltage.
Whereas the S-8215B version has an IC Pin Disconnection Feature, which
enhances the battery pack safety noticeable, a highly requested feature for
power tool applications. In case of a Pin-Disconnection-Detection this
function activates the CO output pin which leads to the same action as if
overcharge wood have been detected and the charging process can be
terminated. This device as a secondary protection IC matches well with the
S-8205 lithium-ion battery protection IC that is also made for 4 or 5 cell
battery packs. A common application note, data sheets and samples of the
protection ICs are available on request. The IC is offered in small packages
SNT-8A and TMSOP-8.
