Standard Chartered CEO and FD Interviewed on Record Results

LONDON, August 4, 2010 - Standard Chartered today released half year results for the six months
ended 30 June 2010 saying it had put in a strong performance and that both
its businesses had made an encouraging start to the second half.

In a video interview with online broadcaster www.cantos.com, CEO
Peter Sands said the performance was not a rebound but that it "continues our
trajectory of delivering for our shareholders."

Group FD Richard Meddings said the Asia-focused bank had managed to post
a strong set of results despite the impact of the continuing low interest
rate environment. While low interest rates remained a feature he said the
bank was "well positioned to go forward, and will benefit as rates come up."
