An important foreign-investor dispute in Uzbekistan escalated in
recent weeks, as the Government of Uzbekistan elected to pursue a
mudslinging strategy instead of good faith negotiations required
under international law. The dispute involves a company owned
by Oxus Gold plc (Oxus) - once Uzbekistan's largest foreign
investor - and two entities controlled by the Government of
Uzbekistan, all of whom joint venture in a precious metals
extraction operation, Amantaytau Goldfields A.O.

In an interview published on 28th May in the Thai newspaper Khao Sod, the
Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Suthep Thaugsuban, issued a series of
strongly-worded statements against the London-based international lawyer
Robert Amsterdam, who, acting on behalf of the Red Shirt pro-democracy
movement, seeks justice for the killings of protesters during the government
crackdown during April and May 2010.
LONDON, May 9, 2011 - The Government of Uzbekistan has distributed false and misleading
statements about one of the country's largest foreign investments, say
lawyers for Oxus Gold PLC (Oxus).
BANGKOK and TOKYO, January 31, 2011 - Today lawyers acting on behalf of the Red Shirt pro-democracy movement
are presenting a petition to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The
Hague requesting prosecutors to open an inquiry into the situation in the
Kingdom of Thailand relating to the alleged commission of crimes against
humanity during the April/May crackdown of last year.
PARIS, June 10, 2010 - The panel established by the Thai authorities to investigate the violence
against protestors in Bangkok over the period March to May lacks impartiality
and independence, according to Robert Amsterdam of law firm Amsterdam &
Peroff, legal advisors to the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship.
