Young adults in the north west of England have turned to unidentified white powders following the ban on former 'legal high' mephedrone and the falling purity of popular street drugs such as cocaine, according to new research published today in the journal Drug and Alcohol Today.

Further to the publication of the ACMD report on Legal Highs on 25 October , which stated that the government should 'continue to strengthen public awareness and education of the dangers of using substances for which no safety data exists' The Angelus Foundation is campaigning to re-instate Drug Education in the National Curriculum.

Recommendations in the long-awaited Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) report on 'legal highs' will leave a generation of young people at risk of harm and even death, unless the Government take urgent action, according to a spokesperson for the Angelus Foundation.
