DUSSELDORF, Germany, July 14, 2010 - "The Pulse of Art Beats Here" is the message of the Quadriennale
Dusseldorf 2010 which provides the framework for the exhibitions of 10
museums and art institutions, other partners and over 30 galleries joined
together under the motto "kunstgegenwartig " (presence of art) opening
September 11. The city of Dusseldorf has generously supported the
Quadriennale with 4.6 million Euro. Dusseldorf has its own, special history
concerning art: up to today important impulses for the international art
scene have originated here.

The exhibitions and the symposium of the Quadriennale attempt to trace
and reflect this legacy in the creation of contemporary art. Marion
Ackermann
, Director of the Kunstsammlung NRW, summarizes from her
perspective: "As an art historian, it is my main concern to ensure that the
explosive nature of history can be felt in an exhibition, but - at the same
time - I formulate questions from a contemporary perspective - linking art
and the present," a statement which could be used as the guiding principle
for the exhibitions of the Quadrienniale 2010. The museum kunst palast does
not display the great teacher Nam June Paik - the "godfather of video art" -
by himself but in conjunction with the young winners of the Nam June Paik
Award. The very title of the exhibition "Marcel Broodthaers and Today" - a
cooperation between the Kunstverein and the Kunsthalle - already expresses
the powerful influence of this major Belgian artist on contemporary art
positions. The more than 30 galleries participating in the Quadriennale are
showing artists whose work has not yet been exhibited in Germany.

The Quadriennale in Dusseldorf is an arts festival between the Rhine and
Ruhr rivers, in the heart of the region with the highest density of culture
in Europe. A great variety of world class exhibitions and cultural events are
waiting for you in the autumn of 2010.
