FRANKFURT - Valeo has been awarded the contract to supply engine cooling modules and condensers for Renault’s electric vehicles program. The first of these vehicles is the L38 VE project, or electric Fluence sedan, initially planned for the Israeli market.

Technical requirements for a fully electric powertrain are quite different from those for a normal engine. In particular, the ventilator system must have a longer service life than a conventional system. After working with its suppliers on accelerated endurance tests, Valeo was able to propose a specific technical definition of the product. It will deliver the complete engine cooling module, including the ventilator system, radiator/condenser and the structural housing based on the one already supplied by Valeo for the current Megane.

For the L38 VE, Valeo will supply an assembled module comprising the radiator, condenser and ventilator system as of the first quarter of 2011.

Renault’s first 100% electric vehicle, the L38 VE is part of the automaker’s strategy to increase the share of electric vehicles in its range to 20% by 2015. Other projects, such as the future electric Clio, or W10 VE, are already under development.
