The Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute Helps Chicago Teachers Prepare Students for IT Careers

The Oracle Academy (academy.oracle.com) , in collaboration with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Career and Technical Education division, today welcomed 55 local teachers to the Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute.
The event takes place from June 20-24 at Simeon High School in Chicago and is part of a commitment by Oracle and local educators to incorporate technology and 21st century skills development into the Chicago Public Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) career programs.
The Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute in Chicago is the first offered to an urban school district and represents an innovative approach to Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) education.
As a result of this effort, over 1,000 students will gain access to leading industry technology, IT skills development and potentially, Oracle certification.
Additionally, the Oracle Academy is pleased to welcome 10 teachers from City Colleges of Chicago who are attending the Institute in preparation for the adoption of the high-tech pathway from CPS.

Instructors’ Institute Details

The Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute is an intensive professional development program (https://academy.oracle.com/pages/prog_ben_instructor.htm) that prepares faculty to teach the Oracle Academy’s technology and business curriculum. The curriculum focuses on database design and SQL programming skills.
Participating faculty complete 40 hours of online coursework before attending an in-class training event.
For the in-class training, teachers work face-to-face with Oracle Academy instructors to prepare to teach Oracle Academy curriculum to their students, and must complete a class project and pass a final exam.
To date, the Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute has trained more than 1,400 teachers in the United States.
The Oracle Academy currently supports over 1.5 million students and teachers in 95 countries, including more than 124,000 students and teachers in the United States.
