The Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute Will Help Iowa Teachers Prepare Students for 21st Century IT Careers

The Oracle Academy (academy.oracle.com) , in collaboration with Iowa Department of Education and Technology Association of Iowa, welcomed 17 local educators to the Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute.
The event takes place June 20-24, 2011 in Pella, Iowa and is part of a commitment by Oracle and local educators to incorporate technology and 21st century skills development into the state’s curricula.
Governor Terry Branstad kicked off the event with opening remarks for the attending educators.
Oracle customer, Pella Corporation, provided their facility and resources for the event.
As a result of this effort, 575 Iowa students will gain access to leading industry technology, IT skills development and potentially, Oracle certification.
Instructors’ Institute Details
The Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute is an intensive professional development program (https://academy.oracle.com/pages/prog_ben_instructor.htm) that prepares faculty to teach the Oracle Academy’s technology and business curriculum. The curriculum focuses on database design and SQL programming skills.
Participating faculty complete 40 hours of online coursework before attending an in-class training event.
For the in-class training, educators work face-to-face with Oracle Academy instructors to prepare to teach Oracle Academy curriculum to their students, and must complete a class project and pass a final exam.
To date, the Oracle Academy Instructors’ Institute has trained more than 1,400 teachers in the United States.
The Oracle Academy currently supports over 1.5 million students and teachers in 95 countries, including more than 124,000 students and teachers in the United States.
