LONDON and MILAN - Preliminary Results for the First two Months of 2009 at the Level of
EBITDA in Line With Those for the First two Months of 2008
During its presentation to the financial community at the 2009
STAR Conference, Buongiorno announces its priorities for the current year and
the next few years and discloses its preliminary results for the first two
months of 2009.
In 2009, the management plans further consolidation following
the successful integration of iTouch completed last year and an
intensification of efforts aimed at innovation and the launch of new
services. Buongiorno’s existing business, which focuses on mobile 1.0
services and content, will remain central to the profit and loss account over
the next two to three years. This business, which appears to have been
affected by the crisis to a relatively limited extent, offers both new
challenges and new opportunities. These challenges include:
- increased regulation (on occasion entailing excessive
consumer protectionism);
- the relative maturity of the demand for MC 1.0 products in
the most developed European countries;
- fragmentary, chaotic competition.
The new opportunities are related to:
- the development of the VAS market in emerging countries;
- the greater propensity of operators to outsource their
portals;
- increased penetration of services such as mobile lotteries;
- consolidation of the market benefiting larger VAS operators.
In this scenario, Buongiorno believes that it can meet the
challenges it faces by focusing on ensuring that its execution of its current
business is as efficient and effective as possible, thereby generating
significant positive cash flow over the next two to three years. At the same
time, the Company plans to intensify its innovation efforts aimed at
developing high-value options capable of intercepting the growing demand tied
to the next-generation MC 2.0 scenario and the dissemination of
mobile-telephone Internet access. Buongiorno confirms that it will pursue
without reservation the development of new MC 2.0 services for the
business-to-consumer (B2C) line, complemented by revamped and updated
offerings for telephone operators (B2O) and businesses (Marketing Services).
Buongiorno’s management also announced the preliminary results
for the first two months of the year: EBITDA in the first two months of 2009
was substantially in line with that of the first two months of 2008;
preliminary revenues in January and February 2009 were down, by approximately
15%, on the same period of 2008 due to the rationalization of the product
portfolio and changes in the accounting treatment of several agreements
currently in force; against the backdrop of strong development opportunities
in several recently opened markets, marketing expenses increased by 5%,
resulting in a 5% decline in IAV compared to the first two months of 2008.
