Oracle Sun Ray 3 Series Clients Honored by the Industrial Designers Society of America
Redwood Shores, Calif. – July 5, 2011
Oracle today announced that it has been awarded the 2011 Silver International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) for Computer Equipment from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
Considered “the Oscars of design,” the IDEA program fosters business and public understanding about the impact of design excellence on the quality of life and the economy.
Winners exemplify how good design and business thinking can elevate a product from the ordinary to the extraordinary and Oracle was recognized for its Sun Ray 3 Series Clients (www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/sunray-3-client-ds-173275.pdf) , simple, low-cost devices that are ideal for displaying server-hosted virtual desktops.
Highlights of Oracle’s award submittal for the Sun Ray 3 Series Clients included the 'concept-through-production' focus on eco-friendliness in the design, materials, packaging, power consumption, weight/shipping, and carbon footprint; human factors like no moving parts, such as the touch-sensitive power switch; and the consistency of features throughout the product line.
Oracle Sun Ray 3 Series Clients, with no local storage or operating system, work in conjunction with Oracle desktop virtualization software to increase security, improve employee access to enterprise applications, and reduce the maintenance, upgrade, and operational costs associated with traditional desktop environments.
The Oracle Sun Ray 3 Series Clients are part of Oracle Virtualization (www.oracle.com/virtualization) , the industry’s most complete desktop-to-datacenter virtualization portfolio; enabling customers to virtualize and manage their full hardware and software stack from applications-to-disk.
The Henry Ford Museum will house the IDEA award winners in its permanent collection to enrich the contents as it continues to tell the story of American innovation.
The IDSA is the voice of the industrial design profession and is focused on advancing the quality and positive impact of design.
"Design has always been an important part of Oracle’s approach, and as the IDEA awards highlight, it can make the difference between an ordinary and extraordinary product,” said Wim Coekaerts, Oracle’s senior vice president, Linux and Virtualization Engineering. “The work that the IDSA does to champion design is commendable and Oracle is honored to receive the 2011 Silver IDEA award for the Oracle Sun Ray 3 Series Clients. This award further acknowledges Oracle’s dedication to innovation and to providing world-class desktop virtualization solutions.”
