- World-Leading
Energy Company Selects Autonomy IDOL and Autonomy Virage
Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in
infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that
Repsol, Spain’s largest oil and gas company, has selected
Autonomy’s cornerstone technology, IDOL (Intelligent Data Operating
Layer) and Autonomy Virage for knowledge management across the
enterprise.
Repsol is one of the world’s ten largest privately-owned
integrated oil and gas companies, with activities in more than
thirty countries. Based in Spain, Repsol is present in every part
of the business chain. Its oil and gas production is around a
million barrels a day. It operates four chemical plants and nine
refineries in the world, and handles over 50 million tons of crude
oil that is transformed into a wide range of products, which the
company distributes and sells through an extensive sales network of
about 7,000 service stations.
IDOL’s unique conceptual abilities, scalability and seamless
connectivity to virtually every data type and repository will
provide Repsol with a cutting-edge enterprise search tool that
removes vast amounts of manual effort traditionally involved in
retrieving and extracting value from electronic information.
Autonomy’s enterprise search will enable Repsol employees to search
across different departments and operating systems, geographic
locations and languages, in order to find timely, relevant
information, regardless of data type or format. Additional
capabilities include delivering personalized information through
Agents, which understand users’ interests and monitor
business-critical information to provide automated alerts, as well
as categorization, automatic hyperlinking and conceptual
clustering, all helping Repsol work more efficiently and quickly
identify market trends, risks or opportunities.
In addition to IDOL, Repsol also selected Autonomy Virage,
Autonomy’s world-leading video and audio analysis technology.
Autonomy Virage’s unique ability to understand specific content and
context of all rich media information, whether an audio recording,
video clip or transcription, allows companies to quickly discover
and leverage their rich media content.
“As a world leader in our sector, we need to ensure we have an
efficient Knowledge Management system that not only supports but
boosts our business, and contributes to its success,” said Domingo
Valhondo, Knowledge Management Manager at Repsol. “We chose
Autonomy as the only provider that allows us to harness all our
electronic information on one platform - including our rich media
data - and use it to its best advantage in order to improve the
productivity of our employees across multiple business units, and,
ultimately, stay competitive.”
“We are excited to be working with one of Spain’s premier
companies, helping it to intelligently manage its data and deliver
true innovation to the organization,” said Nigel Hutchinson, VP of
Autonomy Power solutions EMEA. “Autonomy’s vision is to enable
organizations to interact with information in the most efficient
way possible in order to draw the maximum business benefit - by
allowing computers to understand meaning - and Repsol is at the
forefront of that movement.”
