LONDON, September 13, 2011 -

-farfetch.com is putting its weight behind a campaign to bring the exhibition of the late designer’s work back to his home town-

A petition to bring the Met’s record breaking exhibition “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” to the UK has been gaining steam and farfetch.com, which gives customers access to the best designer boutiques in one easy to shop website, say they fully support bringing the exhibition to the late designer’s home town.

Paul Brine, spokesperson for farfetch.com, comments: “Alexander McQueen was born and raised in London, this is where he learned his trade and where he laid down the roots of his designer clothing label. Although the resplendent staging of the Met in New York was the perfect venue for this exhibition, this homage to McQueen’s amazing work belongs in his hometown and farfetch.com are fully behind the crusade to bring the show to London.”

The campaign was kicked off by Melanie Rickey, fashion and style magazine Grazia’s editor-at-large, who published an article on her magazine’s website in August beseeching readers to sign a petition to “bring McQueen home”. McQueen’s representatives responded by stating that they are still working on finding an appropriate venue for the exhibition, but that plans to bring the show to London have not been finalised. Meanwhile, the petition has garnered over 2,400 signatures and farfetch.com say this is indicative of how passionately fashion savvy Brits feel about the designer.

Brine continues: “It’s been over a year since McQueen passed away and his legacy continues to go from strength to strength with British fashion enthusiasts - Alexander McQueen’s jewellery and clothing designs are still extremely popular with farfetch.com customers. Bringing Savage Beauty to London where it belongs would mean a lot to McQueen’s fans and farfetch.com hope his representatives find a venue to do justice to this spectacular designer’s pieces very soon.”
