OXFORD, England, September 8, 2011 -
RS Components (RS), the world’s leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products and the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), has been announced as a finalist of the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2011 in the ‘Logistics and Distribution Operations’ category. The award recognises excellence in the implementation of a specific project that significantly improves the efficiency of an organisation’s logistics operation.
As part of a five year programme to make its supply chain an influential business partner and acknowledged core-competency for the company, RS has introduced a completely new approach to global supply chain planning and logistics. This has incorporated the implementation of changes and improvements to nearly all of its systems and processes, including moving from a local country approach to a new European supply chain structure, increasing automation, and improving engagement and forecast sharing with key suppliers.
As a result, RS has increased its introduction of new products from 5000 per year in 2008 to 5,000 per month in FY11 (year ended 31 March 2011) with only a 10 percent increase in staff. It has also reduced total supply chain costs by 9.2 percent as a percentage of sales and seen a marked increase in customer satisfaction for both delivery and value for money.
Anne Bruggink, General Manager Supply Chain at Electrocomponents, commented: “It’s an honour to be chosen as a finalist of the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards. This is acknowledgement of our work to date to build a world class supply chain function. Our supply chain gives us a real competitive advantage, as shown by our increased TRI*M customer satisfaction scores which are now close to being in the top 10 percent of all supply chains across Europe.”
The European Supply Chain Excellence Awards recognise and reward organisations in Europe that demonstrate excellence in their supply chain operations. The awards highlight the importance of, and the opportunities offered by, excellent supply chain management and are renowned for the rigour of the judging process.
The winners will be announced at the awards dinner at the Park Lane Hilton, London on Tuesday 1 November 2011.
