The origin in St. Petersburg

The foundation for Alexander Tillander Oy was laid in Russia in the 19th
century, when young Alexander Tillander left Finland to learn the craft of a
jeweller. He set off for St. Petersburg, the heart of the world of gold and
jewels. He quickly became a master of his craft as a goldsmith, and he
established his own jewellery shop in 1860, at the age of 23. The company
later became one of the most renowned manufacturers of valuable jewellery and
objects of precious metal. The First World War ended the activity of the
company in St. Petersburg in 1917, but in the following year the company
started a new in Finland in the heart of Helsinki at Aleksanterinkatu.
