The World's Smallest Cow, a Collection of Smurf Memorabilia, and a Whole Host of Other Incredible Record-Breakers Today Celebrate Their Inclusion in the World's Best-Selling Copyright Book
LONDON, September 16, 2010 - The brand new Guinness World Records 2011 launches today with a host of
incredible new Britons recognised by the historic publication. Among those
landing a hollowed spot in the new book are Nottingham's Stephen Parkes, who
owns the Largest Collection of Smurf Memorabilia (1,061 items) and Swallow
crowned the world's Smallest Cow (33 inches from hind to foot). Britain also
now proudly boasts the Oldest Salsa Dancer (75 years old) and the Heaviest
Gooseberry ever grown! (62 grams).
Measuring the same size of an average sheep, 11-year-old Swallow from
Pike End Farm in Rishworth, West Yorkshire, is unrivalled as the world's
smallest cow. Although, as a breed, Dexter cows are renowned for being small,
Swallow is considerably smaller than her Dexter counterparts. However being
tiny has not impacted on Swallow's life, she has had nine calves, one every
year after her second birthday, each born healthy and normal sized, and her
next one is due in November. Incredibly, her youngest daughter, born last
year, is already double her size!
Also grabbing a place in the new book is 44-year old Stephen Parkes and
his astonishing Smurf collection which consists of 1,061 different items
making this the Largest Collection of Smurf Memorabilia in the world. The
Media Technician from Nottingham began collecting Smurfs in 1976 when he was
10-years-old. 34-years-later, singleton Stephen, who will pay as much as
GBP500 for a rare item and has a giant papa smurf statue over 3mt high, says
'It's great to get in the book, although I think I'm going to get a fair
amount of stick from friends when they see the photos."
Other Brits in this 2011 Edition include West Midlands Stephen Buttler
who broke the record Most Push Ups with Claps in One Minute (73 push ups with
a clap in one minute, an impressive 1.2 push ups each second), the Heaviest
Gooseberry from North Yorkshire which weighed a whopping 62.01 g (2.19 oz) -
8 times larger than a average Gooseberry! Also Mario's Cafe Bar in Bolton has
cooked up the record Largest Commercially Available English Breakfast which
includes 6 rashers of bacon, 6 sausages, 4 eggs, 6 slices of bread, 5 black
puddings, mushrooms, a can of beans and tomatoes, and weighs an average of
2.917 kg (6 lb 7 oz) available for GBP10.95. Punters who can eat it in less
than 20 minutes without any drink, it's free!
But Guinness World Records not only chronicles happy achievements, it
also recognises the perseverance, and ultimate failure of some like Corby's
Patrick Rielly who has broken the record Most Football Management Rejection
Letters. The Scotsman who between 2000 and 2010 received 46 rejection letters
from professional football clubs across the UK now says 'I might of not got
my dream job but now I have a world record, every cloud has a silver lining!'
Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday said: "The Brits are
renowned the world over for their eccentricity, and we've proved that this
year in GWR 2011. We've got record breaking soap collectors, body piercers,
belchers and weightlifters who use only their tongues. But not all our Brits
have odd talents - look at inspirational record holders such as Sir Tom
Jones, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Simon Cowell, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson,
Richard Noble, even Doctor Who… All world beaters! Britain has a lot to be
proud of."
Guinness World Records 2011 is published Thursday 16 September 2010 and
is the latest edition of the world's best-selling copyright book (115 million
copies to date). Guinness World Records is the globally-recognised authority
on record-breaking achievements.
