Lavender, orchid and blush shades begin the evening polished and prim in delicate chiffon and lace, tailored into cute 1960s silhouettes with pie-crust collars, bows and fitted waists. Barely covered - or simply bare - shoulders are topped with softly sculptured, pale yellow or bubblegum pink cuts for a feminine finish.

Jacquard and boucle add texture to pleated or scalloped-edged skirt hems sitting in ladylike fashion above the knee, while tapered trouser legs gently graze exposed ankles atop chunky-heeled, patent-tipped booties. Alternatively, flats come in velvet slipper options or candy-capped glitter brogues. Flashes of taffeta encircle wrists and loosely pinned tousled hair to create head-turning headpieces.

Never known to be caught out - for whatever the night may bring - metallic, oversized box bags hold essentials and more, carried over exaggerated, faux fur, lilac jackets. As the party palette takes pace, unexpected shots of colour set the mood with hits of aqua, lilac and teal, before a pop of red, and shady hues of midnight blue, hint towards what lies ahead.

Previously seen coquettish lace takes on an altogether darker feel, with the addition of further peek-a-boo fabrics and a firm focus on figure and form. Tailoring is androgynous and pencil skirts super-slim, as black dominates against the identical backdrop of the night. Crew necks frame collarbones on ultra-fitted tops teamed with thigh-high black shorts over sheer hosiery.

Button fastenings trim blouses and blazers - mixed with corsetry-inspired pieces and slim, long-line shapes - while silk and sequins make a decadent statement of a party in full flow. As it draws to an end (or, for some, maybe just the beginning…), dishevelled hair and smeared, red lipstick kisses give more than an air of suggestion.
