BSkyB Full Year Results 2009 - Interviews With CEO and CFO

LONDON - British satellite broadcaster BSkyB grew customer numbers at the fastest rate of growth for five years last year, as more consumers chose a night at home in front of the television rather than going out.
In an online video interview with business broadcaster Cantos.com, Sky chief executive Jeremy Darroch said: “When people are tightening their belt and staying home a bit more, I think we offer great entertainment and home communications. I think that more than anything else it’s a reflection of the value that customers attribute to our product set, which is a combination of good quality, in terms of the products that we deliver, and also outstanding value.”
Sky added 462,000 net additional customers during the year, and also tripled the number of HD customers as consumers traded up to the new format.
That strong performance was reflected in the full year results, released today. Sky CFO, Andrew Griffith, commented: “On the back of strong customer demand, we grew our subscription revenues double digits, up 10%, and overall our revenues were up 7%. That, combined with good discipline on costs in the period, has allowed us to increase our profits this year. And that’s despite both the economy and also continuing to invest in high definition.”
