“Improving the health of poor and disenfranchised communities

way to find creative and sustainable solutions in global health.
Rabin Martin, with its passionate staff and strong ties to
prominent public and private clients, is well-positioned to design
initiatives that lead to significant, lasting changes in public
health.”

Dr. Sturchio comes to Rabin Martin from a distinguished career
in global health, corporate responsibility and public policy. He
has led the Global Health Council since August 2009. The Council is
the world’s largest membership alliance of public health
organizations and professionals dedicated to saving lives by
improving health throughout the world. The Council coordinates
efforts among its broad network to improve equity and outcomes in
global health, working with international leaders, government
agencies, multilateral organizations, non-governmental
organizations, faith-based groups and private sector firms.

“In the nearly 20 years I’ve worked with Jeff, I’ve been
impressed by his integrity and passion for improving the health of
the world’s poor,” said Bill Martin, President of Rabin Martin.
“His tireless drive and dedication are a testament to what can be
achieved to halt the spread of disease through constant innovation
in health solutions.”

Dr. Sturchio joined the Global Health Council following nearly
20 years at Merck & Co., Inc., where he served both as Merck’s
Vice President for Corporate Responsibility and as President of The
Merck Company Foundation. At Merck, Sturchio oversaw a portfolio of
activities including the company’s successful global health
partnerships, such as the Merck MECTIZAN Donation Program to treat
river blindness and lymphatic filariasis (a program credited with
halting or nearly halting river blindness in parts of Latin America
and West Africa), Merck’s corporate philanthropy, the Merck Medical
Outreach Program, global HIV/AIDS access programs (including
Merck’s participation in the UN/industry Accelerating Access
Initiative and the African Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Partnerships in
Botswana), the Merck Institute for Science Education, the Merck
Childhood Asthma Network and corporate responsibility reporting. He
also represented Merck on corporate responsibility, global health
and philanthropy issues to the media, public officials, bilateral
and multilateral organizations, NGOs and other external
stakeholders.

Sturchio has also served as the Chairman of the Corporate
Council on Africa, and currently is a Visiting Scholar at the
Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health and the Study of
Business Enterprise at The Johns Hopkins University and a member of
the Global Agenda Council on Health of the World Economic Forum. He
is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a Fellow
of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Sturchio’s appointment follows other recent management
additions at Rabin Martin, including:

  • David Golub, Executive Vice President: Golub provided
nearly 20 years of counsel to the private and public sectors,
including eight years of service with the American Cancer Society,
the largest private health organization in the world.

  • Julie Becker, Senior Vice President: Becker developed
and managed programs to improve the lives of vulnerable
populations, leading HIV/AIDS and women’s health initiatives for
the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, HealthRight
International, EngenderHealth and the International Planned
    Parenthood Federation.

  • Maria Schneider, Senior Vice President: Schneider worked
closely with diverse organizations leading innovative health,
social and public affairs programs and guiding CSR and strategic
philanthropy at Edelman and the Pfizer Foundation and as an
independent consultant, with major clients including the Business
Roundtable, Lance Armstrong Foundation, UNICEF and Harvard School
    of Public Health
    .

“With Jeff and other recent additions to an already strong and
diverse group, the depth of the firm’s senior counseling team is
unmatched in the field,” said Steve Rabin, CEO of Rabin Martin.
