LONDON, October 6, 2011 -

Pancreatic Cancer UK, the national charity striving for a good, long life for everyone diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, along with TV presenter Lorraine Kelly is appealing to the local community to get involved with fundraising this Autumn and help raise much needed cash to reach its goal of doubling survival rates within the next five years.

As part of this year’s Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November, Pancreatic Cancer UK is launching Pancreatic Cancer UK’s Campaign for Hope which aims to double survival rates within five years by encouraging fundraising events throughout the region to raise vital funds.

All ideas are welcome and why not give them a purple theme such as throwing a Purple Day coffee morning or encourage local community, schools and businesses to get involved by holding a free (purple) dress-up day in return for a donation?

Alternatively why not organise your own Striding for Survival walk locally? The idea is really simple. Just identify a favourite local walk that you want to do, choose a day in November that suits you and encourage friends and family to join or sponsor you.

In fact, Pancreatic Cancer UK is organising a BIG Striding for Survival walk in London on the 26 November in the picturesque Lee Valley. They will also be turning Lingfield Park purple on 22 November for their first charity race day. Everyone is welcome.

Pancreatic cancer is the most fatal of all cancers in the UK and the 5th most common cause of cancer deaths (after breast, lung, bowel and prostate). Survival rates are poorer than in many other countries, with less than 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the UK will survive more than five years.

Lorraine explains, “Now is the time to create change and make a real difference to pancreatic cancer survival rates by saving the lives of up to 250 people each year. Please help us by getting involved.”
