SUNNYVALE, California -
- Spirent QoS Scope, Industry’s First 10G Ethernet Service Assurance Solution, Extends Spirent’s Lab Testing Leadership in the Live Network
In an effort to not only help carriers pre-qualify new 10 Gigabit Ethernet services but also ensure their networks perform reliably once launched, Spirent Communications plc (www.spirent.com/), today introduced, Spirent QoS Scope 7500 (www.spirent.com/Solutions-Directory/~/media/Datasheets/Broadband/SAB/Q oS7500_datasheet.ashx), the industry’s first 10G Ethernet service assurance solution for testing service performance in live networks. Already deployed by three of the largest service providers in the United States, the QoS Scope validates the performance of complex 10G and 1G Ethernet services such as business Ethernet and wireless backhaul.

A leader in network, services and device testing, Spirent has extended its technical prowess and leadership in lab-based Ethernet testing to help service providers address issues that occur in their live networks. The QoS Scope provides valuable ways to conduct service assurance for Ethernet over Fiber, SONET/SDH, WDM, TDM, DOCSIS, GPON and copper architectures in both trial and live network environments.
“Service providers are challenged with deploying and maintaining Ethernet services within constrained budgets while ensuring that “carrier-grade” service and quality of experience continually exceed customer expectations,” said John Cunningham, vice president of Service Assurance at Spirent. “With the QoS Scope, we’ve extended our deep understanding of Ethernet testing to offer a solution which helps operators of advanced networks better diagnose and address potential issues before they impact the bottom line.”
With a combination of active and passive capabilities, and the capacity to support simultaneous test sessions, a carrier can use the QoS Scope to successfully launch service as well as identify any degradation that occurs in the network after launch. Armed with information provided by this solution, the service provider can then dispatch a field technician to fix rather than find problems reported by the customer. The QoS Scope also facilitates the continuous 24×7 monitoring of network performance allowing service providers to identify and fix issues that have impacted or may impact Service Level Agreements (SLAs) before customers are affected. Support for both 1G and 10G Ethernet networks enables providers to deploy a single solution that covers large and small architectures, thereby reducing the cost and the complexity of their service assurance strategy.
Spirent was recently recognized by Frost & Sullivan as the global leader in Ethernet testing (www.spirent.com/Planet-Spirent/Media_Room/Hall_of_fame/Frost_Ethernet_Award%202009.aspx) according to the research firm’s World Gigabit Ethernet Test Equipment Market report. Spirent sold more Ethernet test ports than any other vendor through its comprehensive solution portfolio that spans testing from the lab to the live network and into the subscriber’s home.
