Built in 1986, the Lotus Temple serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent.
The temple is one of the most renowned temples of the world which is popular for its architectural excellence and design. The design looks like a half opened Lotus flower with 27 freestanding “petals” made of marble that adds to the glory of the temple. The lotus represents the Manifestation of God, and is also a symbol of purity and tenderness. Nine reflecting pools surround the building on the outside, their form suggesting the green leaves of the lotus flower.
Lotus Temple is open for religions and sects wherein people from all faith can pray and meditate in peaceful and tranquil environment. Winner of several prestigious architectural awards, the Temple is also known as a House of Worship. The lotus temple has to its accreditation being recognized all over the world as one of the most visited edifices in the world with almost 50 million people having visited the temple since its inception in 1986.
