EDINBURGH, Scotland, August 1, 2011 -

Macdonald Hotels has announced the appointment of Jeremy Hopkins to general manager of the company’s Macdonald Townhouse property in Manchester.

More than twenty years since opting to pursue a professional life in hospitality, 43 year-old Jeremy Hopkins has achieved a further significant step change in his successful career with his new appointment. Wales-born Hopkins comes to the 85-bedroom, 4-star boutique Manchester hotel in the city centre with an impressive track record.

This has included several years as Food and Beverage Director at The Savoy, being part of the management team that helped The Grove (Watford) win the 2005 Hotel of the Year, regularly overseeing lunches for over 2,000 guests as banqueting manager at The Grosvenor House (London), satisfying the appetites of stars at the BRITS and MOBO’s while catering manager at the London Arena, and even personally serving HM Queen and Prince Philip while employed at Alexandra Palace (see also notes to editor).

Hopkins’ assertion that “hospitality is in my blood” is no idle boast.  He was raised by parents employed as the steward and stewardess of the Royal British Legion club in the south Wales town of Crynant.  As Hopkins explained: “Those early years instilled in me the simple but very important values of enjoying talking to and helping people.  I firmly believe being hospitable is precisely what this industry is about.”

As general manager, Hopkins is now determined to apply all of his hard earned hospitality experience and knowledge to realise his vision for The Macdonald Townhouse Hotel, the recent beneficiary of a £3.5 million refurbishment.  He aims to establish the grade II listed Victorian building as the number one offering for discerning business, leisure and conferencing guests who seek a quality 4-star boutique hotel experience in the heart of Manchester city centre.

“My ambition is to make the beautifully appointed Macdonald Townhouse Hotel the destination of choice for all who seek a comfortable and memorable stay in the city,” affirmed Hopkins.

“With a restaurant that already produces top quality, freshly produced food, comfortable and tastefully styled bedrooms and contemporary styled, superbly equipped meeting spaces, my challenge now is to ensure every potential guest knows where they should reserve for a memorable stay and dining experience.”

And explaining why he has chosen to join the UK’s largest privately owned hotel group, Hopkins said: “As an employee of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, you are made to feel you really can make a valuable contribution to the success of the business; one where guests are always our number one priority.”
