By The Press Association, PRNEWednesday, March 17, 2010
LONDON, March 18, 2010 - PA Group, owner of the Press Association, has announced that
Murdoch MacLennan is to become Non-Executive Chairman of PA Group's board of
directors. Murdoch will take up his new position on the board on 19 March
2010.
He succeeds Tim Bowdler, who is stepping down, as planned,
after overseeing the succession of Clive Marshall as PA Group's new Chief
Executive Officer following the retirement of Paul Potts. The board thanks
Tim for his contribution to PA Group, both as a Director since 2001 and
latterly as Chairman.
Murdoch is Chief Executive of the Telegraph Media Group, a
position he has held since October 2004. Prior to this he was Group Managing
Director of Associated Newspapers, following a number of senior positions at
the Mirror Group, Express Newspapers, the Scottish Daily Record and the
Sunday Mail. From 2005-2007 he was Chairman of the Newspaper Publishers
Association.
Murdoch previously held a position on the PA Group board from
1998 to 2004. During this time he worked with recently appointed PA Group
Chief Executive Clive Marshall, who also sat on the board from 2000 to 2001.
Commenting on his appointment, Murdoch MacLennan said: "It is
a real honour to be appointed Chairman of PA Group. It is a fascinating time
to be involved in the industry and, with Clive now at the helm, it is an
exciting moment in the Press Association's history. I very much look forward
to working with Clive and the team in my new role. I would like to thank Tim
Bowdler for being such an excellent steward, and guiding PA Group through a
crucial transitional period."
Clive Marshall, Chief Executive Officer, PA Group, commented:
"I am delighted that Murdoch has agreed to take on the role of PA Group
Chairman. Having worked with Murdoch previously, I know that his insight and
experience will be invaluable to the group and I look forward to working
together as we shape the future of the Press Association's businesses."
Tim Bowdler said: "I have greatly appreciated the opportunity
to play a part in the continued development of PA Group. It is a great
organisation and I wish Murdoch, Clive and his team every success."
