Naseeruddin Shah Launches “War and Peace” by Anand Patwardhan

Actor Naseeruddin Shah will be the chief guest at the launch of ‘War and Peace’ on 19th October 2009, 5 pm at Landmark, Infinitii Mall, Andheri West - Mumbai in presence of celebrated documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan and Varun Verma- Head of Enlighten Home Entertainment.

‘War and Peace’ was shot over four tumultuous years in India, Pakistan, Japan, and the USA in the face of global militarism and war. Fifty years after the murder of Mahatma Gandhi his memory seems like a mirage created by our thirst for peace and our very distance from it.
This film was initially banned by the Indian censor board but was finally cleared without cuts by the Bombay High Court.
“Enlighten has always represented world class content and we are extremely happy to launch Anand Patwardhan’s landmark work under our label. This film has already won critical acclaim internationally. For us, it’s a very important film as it marks our entry into the new segment of documentaries,” says Varun Verma, Head of Enlighten Home Entertainment.
Enlighten has already acquired 20 major Indian and International documentaries which would be released over a period of one year.
On this occasion Anand Patwardhan says, “Enlighten has already brought us some world classics in fiction and extending this to the documentary is an idea whose time has come. Already people like Michael Moore have proved that the documentary can be as exciting, entertaining and perhaps even more important than fiction and I see no reason why the Indian public, once exposed, will think otherwise.”
The DVD is priced at Rs 599 and includes loads of extra features and a pullout brochure about the film the censorship battles the filmmaker had to go through before releasing the film.
