Simplifies Deployment of a Highly Available, Virtualized Database
Redwood Shores, Calif. – November 15, 2010
News Facts
Enabling customers to rapidly deploy a highly available, virtualized database, Oracle today announced the availability of new Oracle VM Templates (www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/templates-101937.html) for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (www.oracle.com/database) and Oracle Real Application Clusters (www.oracle.com/us/products/database/options/real-application-clusters/index.htm) .
By providing pre-installed and pre-configured software images, Oracle VM Templates provide an innovative approach to deploying a fully configured software stack and enable virtual and cloud environments to be provisioned quickly, easily, consistently, and with simplified management.
The new Oracle VM Templates for Oracle Real Application Clusters provide a fast and easy way to deploy a database cluster on Oracle VM for development, test and production environments. Clusters of any number of nodes can be built, and the entire installation is automated, requesting minimal information from the user when guests are booted.
Combining the benefits of Oracle VM for x86 (www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/oraclevm/index.html) and Oracle Oracle Real Application Clusters (www.oracle.com/us/products/database/options/real-application-clusters/index.htm) offers a highly available database cloud solution with all the benefits of a fully virtualized environment.
The new Oracle VM Templates are available in 32-bit or 64-bit system formats.
Unique Combination of Virtualization and Clustering Speeds Time to Market and Enables Higher Availability
Use of Oracle VM Templates greatly simplifies installation and configuration, helping reduce initial and ongoing maintenance costs and allowing organizations to achieve faster time to market and lower cost of operations.
By deploying Oracle Real Application Clusters in Oracle VM environments with the new templates, customers can benefit from improved database availability.
The combination of Oracle VM and Oracle Real Application Clusters enables continuous availability in the face of hardware and software failures, much higher availability than would traditionally be obtained through hypervisor-only solutions from vendors like VMware, which can only move and restart failed virtual machines.
Oracle VM Templates are also available for (www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/templates-101937.html?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen) Oracle Applications, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Database, Oracle Linux, Oracle Solaris and other Oracle products.
