OTN is the world's largest community of application developers, database administrators, system administrators, and architects using industry-standard technologies in combination with Oracle products.
Oracle continues to see significant developer adoption of Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE (www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javaee/overview/index.html?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen) ) 6 with over 9.1 million downloads of the Java EE SDK and GlassFish Server (https://glassfish.dev.java.net/) distributions during the last 12 months.

Continuing its commitment to open source and specifically to the Eclipse Foundation, Oracle announced today that it has proposed a new code contribution to the Eclipse Foundation, called Sapphire, intended to help Eclipse developers design better Java desktop user interfaces.
These milestones represent the latest in Oracle’s long history of fostering development communities and providing a complete, open, integrated set of development tools that enhance developer productivity and innovation.
Oracle Technology Network Leading Resource for Java Developers
Oracle Technology Network recently completed the migration of all content from the popular Java developer sites developers.sun.com (developers.sun.com/) , and java.sun.com (java.sun.com/) , (as well as the Solaris-focused BigAdmin site) to a completely re-architected, re-designed Website which receives one million page views per business day.

Oracle Continues Contributions to the Eclipse Community
• Continuing its commitment to the Open Source (www.oracle.com/us/technologies/open-source/index.htm) community, Oracle has proposed a new project called the Sapphire project to the Technology Container Project at the Eclipse Foundation. The project aims to bring User Interface (UI) writing in Eclipse to a higher level of abstraction by raising the basic building block of the UI to a property editor, rather than a widget (text box, label, button, etc.).
• A property editor analyzes metadata associated with a given property, renders the appropriate widgets to edit that property and wires up data binding. Data is synchronized, validation is passed from the model to the UI, and content assistance is made available, saving the developer the task of writing these tasks from scratch.
Developers Embrace Java EE 6 and GlassFish Server
With its advances as a highly productive, lightweight and extensible development platform for enterprise server applications, Java EE 6 (www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javaee/downloads/index-jsp-140710.html) continues to see rapid adoption by the developer community. The reference implementation of Java EE is not only available from Oracle as the Java EE SDK but also in a commercially supported server, Oracle GlassFish Server, and as a free, open source server, GlassFish Server Open Source Edition. Oracle GlassFish Server is part of the Oracle Fusion Middleware (www.oracle.com/us/products/middleware/index.html) application grid portfolio and complements Oracle WebLogic Server (www.oracle.com/us/products/middleware/application-server/index.html) . GlassFish Server downloads have increased 73 percent year over year.
Oracle released GlassFish Server 3.0.1, the industry's first application server to support Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 6. The new release focuses on improved flexibility and ease of use, allowing developers to reduce cost by providing improved developer productivity on a simplified application architecture foundation. GlassFish Server 3.0.1 also features alignment with NetBeans 6.9, support for Eclipse, scripting support including JRuby/Ruby and Groovy/Grails, an easy-to-use Administration Console and Update Center connectivity.
At JavaOne, Oracle also previewed GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 3.1. Driven by community feedback, this release is intended to deliver new features for high availability and large scale manageability and administration.
