Technical Specifications for Java SE 7 and Java SE 8 Passed by JCP Executive Committee Vote

In keeping with its commitment to advance Java faster and to support standardization activities through the Java Community Process (JCP), Oracle announced that the Java Specification Requests (JSRs) for the next two releases of the Java Platform - JSR-336 and JSR-337 - have been formally approved by an overwhelming majority in the JCP Executive Committee vote.

With this ratification, the Java standard will progress through the JCP while the open source reference implementation will be delivered through the OpenJDK project.

The plan, which includes community feedback and is endorsed by the JCP Executive Committee, calls for standardization of these technologies in Java SE 7 within 2011, with Java SE 8 following in 2012.
