Tiger Hover Tours - The Only Tourist Passenger Hover Service in the UK Launches This Weekend

PLYMOUTH - 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the first channel crossing of a hovercraft. This great British invention can now be experienced with Tiger Hover Tours in the heart of Plymouth. The first flight is on the 13th of June, starting from 10am, every hour from the Barbican landing stage. Like our bright yellow hovercraft, they are easily identifiable with their bright yellow polo shirts and tiger logo.

Plymouth was chosen for the location of this new and exciting tourist attraction due to its unique environment allowing the full capabilities and the experience of flying in a hovercraft to be exploited. Flying up the River Plym allows the transition from sea to land to be experienced. Flying around the Sound lets you experience a hovercraft at sea in calm conditions with the breakwater moderating the British weather.

Tiger 12 Hovercraft

The Tiger 12 Hovercraft is the only Coastguard approved passenger carrying hovercraft of its type in Europe. Presently seating 10 passengers, it lets you get closer to the true experience of flying in a hovercraft.

It is fully amphibious allowing the exciting transition from sea to land in areas that are not accessible to other craft. Hovercraft ride on a bed of air and do not disturb the ground or produce wash on the water, making them environmentally sound.

Tiger Hover Tours began operating as Hovercraft Rental, and has been operating around the UK gaining experience of flights in a wide variety of locations. The craft has operated in Sites of Special Scientific Interest, festivals, tourist events and commercial applications.

Added to the greater sea protection, the River Plym provides a wonderful lake type environment with calm conditions all year round. The craft can operate here in comfort exploring its full amphibious capabilities. It also allows you to safely experience the unique manoeuvres that can only be experienced on a hovercraft.

You are picked up right from the heart of town at the Barbican pontoon, and then hover out to the scenic area around the River Plym. Or, charter the vessel, and design your own trip within the breakwater area of the Sound.
