Carillion Energy Services - UK Households Aren't Using Standby Saver Products

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, England, May 20, 2011 - Carillion Energy Services (heating.carillionenergy.com/) has
carried out a survey showing that 61% of households in the UK don't use
standby saver products.
Done through Facebook, the survey covers a wide range of ways to save
money on central heating bills and shows that the majority of people
questioned have no standby saver products fitted in their homes.
This statistic comes hot on the heels of the Department for Energy and
Climate Change report showing that the UK greenhouse gas emissions rose by
2.8% in 2010.
Meanwhile, the International Energy Agency has estimated that between 5%
and 15% of household electricity consumption is wasted on "standby".
This means that if your electricity bill is GBP400 per year, around GBP40
of that is spent on powering things when they are not in use. So, with 26
million households in Great Britain (source: Office of National Statistics)
this adds up to GBP1 billion per year, simply wasted.
Most people don't think to turn off their dish washers, washing machines
or microwaves at the mains socket, but if they want to reduce their bills,
and their carbon footprint, then they probably should.
61% is far too high and with fuel bills likely to increase over the next
few years it's important to get more people using standby saver products.
If you want to take part in the survey, find it on

central heating bill by answering a few simple questions.
