China Soul Releases "Breathe" From Debut Album, "Secrets & Words"
By As Music, PRNEMonday, March 14, 2011
LONDON, March 15, 2011 - After releasing her much-anticipated debut album Secrets & Words in
November 2010, China Soul, daughter of actors David Soul (Starsky and Hutch)
and Julia Nickson (Rambo II), is set to release her follow-up single,
Breathe, via AS:MUSIC on 25th April 2011.
Described by the critics as "China Soul at her most pop", Breathe was
co-written and produced by BAFTA Award nominee and Robbie Williams'
collaborator Chaz Jankel of The Blockheads. Drawing on inspiration from some
of her favourite artists, including Nina Simone and Joni Mitchell, Breathe
tells the familiar but poignant story of a young woman grappling to free
herself from the oppressive forces intrinsic to personal relationships.
With China's previous single Cold enjoying a two month stint on BFBS
Radio 2's A-list, as well as several prominent spot plays and live sessions,
most notably on the Jools Holland and Dermot O'Leary BBC Radio Two shows,
expectations for Breathe are high.
A UK promotional tour will follow shortly after the release and China is
already set to play 'Live at the Castle' with The Wanted and Eliza Doolittle
on 17 July, 2011.
While David Soul has pledged his full support for this release, and will
likely join China at different stages of her promotional tour, China is under
no illusions that her father's fame will in any way expedite her progress in
this ultra-competitive industry; "At the end of the day, I will be judged by
my music alone." As one prominent music critic recently concluded, "China
does not need the supportive fame of her father… she is a perfectly valid
and credible artist in her own right." (UK Music Review)
China has already started to capture the attention of the national media,
having recently been the subject of a four page interview in OK! Magazine,
with her father, as well as having been declared 'Love Moment of the Week',
by the Times Newspaper's Celebrity Watch column, for the story surrounding
how she met her fiance, a former street performer in Covent Garden.
Breathe will be released commercially in the UK on 25th April 2011.
