LONDON - Unhappy customers still feel they are not getting the speeds being promised by broadband suppliers in their advertising - with complaints shooting up nine per cent.

The leading independent broadband comparison site, www.broadbandsuppliers.co.uk, has just completed new analysis of 12 months’ worth of figures from broadband suppliers.

And it has found that most customers typically do not get the headline speeds promised to them in adverts.

“When you see that you can get speeds of 10Mb that’s what you expect - but it’s rarely what you get,” explained Nadeem Azam, the marketing manager of www.broadbandsuppliers.co.uk.

“These adverts are legal because they put small print saying the speed is ‘up to’ 10Mb. But we feel that is dishonest, and clearly so do customers.

“That is the main reason complaints have gone up nine per cent in the past 12 months. People are fed up bring promised a fast 10Mb connection, and receiving 2Mb.”

www.broadbandsuppliers.co.uk’s independent consumer guides educate people that many factors determine the actual speed available in each area.

These can include the distance of your home from the phone exchange.

Nadeem added: “The broadband companies must get away from the marketing drug of promising fast speeds to get a connection at any cost.”

“They are inadvertently teaching customers to not believe the claims they make, and that will damage trust in the telecoms industry as a whole for decades to come.”

www.broadbandsuppliers.co.uk is part of an independent network of 200 comparison and cashback sites with 750,000 members who buy from 2,000 mainstream retailers and businesses.

That means it is able to monitor and analyse UK internet spending habits and trends in a way no other business can.

www.broadbandsuppliers.co.uk is operated by V A C Media, the biggest operator of customer loyalty websites in the UK.
