INTERLAKEN, Switzerland -
- The Cricketing World Elite Meet in the High Mountains for a Friendly Match on Snow - a Spectacle!
Jungfrau Railways staged a crazy event on the Jungfraujoch on 15 August: a friendly cricket match at 3454 metres above sea level with legendary players from India and Great Britain. Stars such as Kapil Dev and Alvin Kallicharran took part, two players who rank among the best cricketers of all time. The teams were made up of 6 players and the match lasted 45 minutes. It was played on a 100-metre-long and 70-metre- wide field of snow. The team from India won the game by 4 runs on their independence day. Kapil Dev, India’s most famous cricketer, spoke about a “historical event” and an “outstanding experience”. Indian guests and tourists collected autographs and went crazy when the ball hit the snow.
The main sponsor of this unique cricketing event is Swiss International Air Lines. Other sponsors are Beyond Boundaries, Switzerland Tourism, Interlaken Tourism and Longines.
With the cricket match, Jungfrau Railways are launching a new offer for the winter season aimed at guests from India, Great Britain and Switzerland. Two people can stay overnight in a hotel and receive a ski pass for the price normally paid by one person. The offer is valid from two nights, from 5 to 24 December 2009 and 15 March to 18 April 2010. With this promotion, Jungfrau Railways intends to strengthen its presence in the Swiss, British and Indian markets. The company is following a countercyclical policy in the economic crisis.
