Edfors Challenges Ilonen to Launch GameBook Cup: Sweden vs Finland Open Golf Tournament
By Gamebook Oy, PRNESunday, June 26, 2011
ESPOO, Finland, June 27, 2011 -
GameBook today launched the GameBook Cup, the first open
golf tournament between Sweden and Finland to be held during the
weekend of August 27.-28.8.2011. At today’s kick-off game, the
three-time European Tour winner Johan Edfors leads Team
Sweden in challenging Team Finland, led by the two-time European
Tour winner Mikko Ilonen, at the Hill’s Golf Club in
Göteborg, Sweden, at 13.00 Swedish time. The live leaderboard of
the kick-off game can be found at

At the open GameBook Cup in August, anyone in Sweden and Finland
can participate by playing one or more rounds of golf on any golf
course. The countries will compete head-to-head in seven different
categories and the country that wins more categories will win the
bragging rights for 2011. One of the winning categories is the
“country that makes more birdies”. Other categories will be
revealed in the weeks leading up to the GameBook Cup.
- Everyone is welcome and every round counts! This is an
opportunity for anyone to get involved and wear the colors of
Finland or Sweden on the golf course. Get your friends
together, have fun and play golf to beat your neighboring country,
encourages GameBook CEO Kalle Väinölä. - GameBook
wants to offer Swedish and Finnish golfers something new,
innovative and fun in golf.
All that a player needs to do is to play golf and keep score
with the GameBook iPhone app - or enter their score manually after
the round in their GameBook Clubhouse profile. If the
registration of the player’s GameBook iPhone application or
GameBook Clubhouse profile is to an address in Finland or Sweden,
the round automatically participates in the GameBook Cup.
At today’s kick-off game, Team Sweden also includes NHL players
Viktor Stålberg (Chicago Blackhawks) and Fredrik
Pettersson (Atlanta Thrashers). Team Finland includes
Jussi Markkanen, EV Zug, ex NHL (Stanley Cup finals 2006)
and NHL player Sami Lepistö (Columbus Blue Jackets) who also
played against Sweden for the World Hockey Championship this year.
- It is good to join forces today with Stålberg and Pettersson
to beat the Finnish team, says Johan Edfors. - While the
Finnish team is solid, my team has the home team advantage.
- I am delighted to captain such a strong Finnish team, says
Mikko Ilonen. - What we lack in home team advantage we will
make up in the traditional Finnish guts or “sisu”, he laughs.
