RESTON, Virginia - Certification for Ekahau Adds New RTLS Tags and Solutions to Support Cisco Unified Wireless Networks

Ekahau Inc., a leading provider of Wi-Fi-based Real Time Location Systems (RTLS), today announced that its Wi-Fi RTLS tags have been certified under the Cisco Compatible Extensions program for Wi-Fi tags. This certification enables organizations to add advanced location and tracking functionality to their Cisco Unified Wireless Network for asset, inventory and people tracking applications with Ekahau’s award-winning Wi-Fi RTLS software and smart Wi-Fi tags.

“Cisco and Ekahau solutions are deployed in well-established customer sites in various industries,” said Christophe Servais, mobility solutions marketing manager for Cisco. “With the Cisco Compatible Extensions for Wi-Fi tags certification, the interoperability of Ekahau’s Wi-Fi tags and Cisco’s Unified Wireless Network will significantly broaden the applications and benefits running on the Cisco Unified Wireless Network.”

In addition to supporting the beaconing-protocol as part of the Cisco Wi-Fi tag specification, Ekahau tags continue to support their current 802.11 standards-based bi-directional protocol. This provides Cisco’s customers the flexibility to use the Ekahau tags for a broad set of applications, while utilizing Ekahau’s smart tags functions and software for applications requiring two-way communication, text messaging, remote tag maintenance and other advanced features. With this certification, the Ekahau system is interoperable with the Cisco Unified Wireless Network portfolio.

“The Cisco Compatible Extension for Wi-Fi tags certification provides customers with the confidence that Ekahau Tags interoperate with the Cisco Unified Wireless Network and can be tracked with the Cisco Mobility Services Engine. This will allow customers to benefit from the advanced capabilities provided by Cisco’s Unified Wireless Network and to adopt solutions from Cisco’s ecosystem of application partners,” said Antti Korhonen, president and CEO, Ekahau.

Since launching the industry’s first Wi-Fi-based tracking solution in 2002, Ekahau has been leading the innovation of Wi-Fi-based location algorithms and smart tag design. Advanced features of Ekahau’s tags give users unprecedented flexibility to optimize tag performance for every application. Customizable location reporting intervals and rules, detachment detection, remote configuration and management, tag messaging, and enhanced security features such as Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) support, make maintaining asset and people tracking systems easier than ever.
