LONDON, September 2, 2011 -
-A recent study has named London the new “fashion capital of the world”, which farfetch.com say is hardly surprising considering the city’s strong fashion credentials-
A recent study, which sought to reveal the most talked about city in fashion, has unveiled London as the new fashion capital of the world. farfetch.com, which is based in London and gives customers access to the best designer boutiques in one easy to shop website, say that London’s impact on global fashion makes it a deserving winner.
Paul Brine, spokesperson for farfetch.com, comments: “British luxury fashion has been enjoying a revival recently; the popularity of designers such as Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney has soared throughout the world, causing demand to rise for British designed luxury fashion items, including shoulder bags, designer dresses and trousers. Many British luxury fashion brands are based in the City and much of the British fashion scene revolves around it, so for us it’s not unexpected that farfetch.com’s home city has taken the fashion capital crown.”
The study analysed the frequency of city-based, fashion related terms that appeared on the internet, blogosphere, social media sources, and print and electronic media; it was conducted by the Global Language Monitor. The research has been carried out for a number of years with London historically appearing in the top five, but this year saw the city topple New York off of the top spot and take the crown.
Brine observes: “With the London 2012 Olympics only a year away, the Royal Wedding earlier this year and London Fashion Week fast approaching, it’s not surprising that the world is buzzing about London’s fashion clout and that international boutiques are clamouring to get their hands on London designed goods. farfetch.com works with fashion boutiques from all around the world, but we are proud to be able to say our company is based in the fashion capital of the world. We are sure that the hype surrounding London; along with the city’s many fashion ambassadors such as Alexa Chung, Emma Watson and Kate Middleton; could see London holding on to the fashion capital title for some years to come.”
