GALLIZIEN, Austria - Austrians have found an interesting method to sell their homes - the house lottery. Traude Daniel from Carinthia was the first homeowner, who had the idea to sell 9.999 lottery-tickets for EUR 99,- over the internet. Within a few days all tickets were sold. The money transfer as well as the drawing were monitored by a solicitor and the winner was informed while sitting at the dentist. A real estate sale by lottery is legal in Austria as long as the drawing is limited to a single item.

Stanislaus Kogoj liked the idea immediately. He owns a spacious and luxurious home in Southern Carinthia close to Lake Klopein, which is famous for its excellent water quality and temperatures up to 28degreesC. “I thought I could give people who always wanted a house but never had the money to buy it the opportunity to do so,” Kogoj says. The property is surrounded by fields and has an estimated property size of 1389 metres squared. “I realized that 400 metres squared of living space are too big for me,” the homeowner states. Exterior pool, Finnish sauna, steam shower, infrared cabin, winter garden with Jacuzzi - the house has a few extras, which the lucky winner can get for only EUR 99,-. He also gets three cars (Nissan Murano, Ford Galaxy, Legier BeTwo). Expenses like taxes and fees are paid by Mr. Kogoj, who even pays the running costs until the end of 2010.
