KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo, December 6, 2011 -
Today, FreeFair DRC launched a map detailing reported irregularities, allegations of fraud, and incidents of violence during the elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The map - which contains dozens of incidents in cities and villages across the DRC - draws from reports published by the media and international observers.
FreeFair DRC’s Herman Nzeza said of the effort, “We started this project to help paint a clearer picture of the extent of the irregularities in these elections. Unfortunately, the reports of violence, fraud and other election incidents continue to come in, so this is a work in progress.
“Given that SMS networks have been shut down, we encourage Congolese citizens to continue to contact FreeFair DRC as a way of disseminating information about the real time picture on the ground.”
“We call on Congolese authorities to fully investigate each of these incidents and hold those responsible to account.”
