LONDON, July 26, 2011 -

The greatest skills competition on earth is coming to London on 5th October, and Guardian Jobs are today promoting vocational training and the benefits of apprenticeships, in helping young people secure jobs for their future.

WorldSkills London 2011 is a unique competition that brings together young people from across the globe to compete in their chosen trade or specialism.

About 150,000 visitors are expected to attend the four-day event, due to be held from 5-8 October at the ExCel conference and exhibition centre in Docklands, east London. In the run-up to the event there will also be opportunities for the public to try out various skills and trades at different locations across the UK, as well as inspiring “showcase” demonstrations and performances from young people from schools, colleges and training providers across the UK.

Sophie Relf, head of marketing strategy Guardian Jobs, said, “While A Level results and University league tables command all the attention, vocational training and apprenticeships are just as important, and the only route into certain professions.  WorldSkills 2011 brings together young people to demonstrate and celebrate these skills, which can prove invaluable in the work place.”
