IIMSAM Middle East Director & Goodwill Ambassador Dr. Naseer Homoud message on United Nations Day. Dr. Naseer Homoud calls upon the Member States to empower the UN enabling it to achieve the Millennium Development Goals

On June 26, 1945, representatives from 50 countries signed the charter creating the United Nations (U.N.), which inaugurated a new era of unprecedented international cooperation. The world had then just emerged victorious against the threat of global tyranny, and these representatives resolved to preserve peace through international cooperation and collective security. Officially coming into existence on October 24, 1945, the U.N. became the central organization charged with carrying out this mission. Since then, it has worked to maintain world peace and security, to develop friendly relations among nations, to cooperate in solving international problems, and to promote respect for human rights. Today, 192 countries belong to the United Nations Family. The organization’s mission remains as urgent as ever, particularly as our world confronts new challenges in the 21st century.

While observing UN Day which is marked every year on October 24, Dr. Naseer Homoud Goodwill Ambassador and Director of Middle East office for the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina against Malnutrition (IIMSAM), the Permanent Observer to the United Nations Economic and Social Council while addressing the media said “The UN has a unique mandate to maintain international peace and security and to determine what should be done when peace is threatened - from mediation and sanctions to military intervention. And right now we are at a stage where the number of peacekeeping operations throughout the world is increasing dramatically”. He further urged that it is the privilege of the world to have UN on board and the role and efforts of UN while dealing global and national issues are really commendable and deserves appreciation from all corners of the world.

The purposes of the United Nations, as set out in the UN Charter, are to maintain international peace and security; to develop friendly relations among nations; to cooperate in solving international economic, social, cultural and humanitarian problems and in promoting respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms; and to be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations in attaining these common ends

The UN Charter is the constituting instrument of the United Nations, articulating the rights and obligations of the Member States, and establishing the Organization’s organs and procedures. It embraces the central role of the United Nations in addressing the most profound issues facing the future of mankind

UN is a global organization which is a joint platform of its member states and the real strength of UN is vested with its indispensability with its member states. While calling the member states to exert more efforts to strength UN Dr. Naseer added “In its 64 years of existence, the UN has had to face all the challenges that a continually changing world presents. Its operations have become increasingly extensive, diverse and complex. The need to find joint solutions in an increasingly globalised world is growing. And the UN has the credibility and the legitimacy needed to deal with global challenges, but its power to act is also completely dependent on the participation of the member states”.

While addressing the media Dr. Naseer said “on the occasion of United Nations Day, I extend my cordial felicitations and best wishes to those who have been working hard to make the United Nations an effective instrument for world peace and security, vehicle for international cooperation and development, protector of fundamental freedoms and human rights and a center for harmonizing the actions of nations in attainment of their common ends.”

We live in an interconnected and interdependent world where security, human freedom and economic development are also interlinked. Growing interdependence has called for shared responsibilities, common commitments, collective strategies and concerted efforts. IIMSAM feels that only a strong, credible, effective, efficient United Nations is capable of managing intertwined challenges and threats; and promoting social and economic progress with full respect to justice, freedom and equality. IIMSAM’s long-standing participation in the UN Millennium Development Goals stands as a clear manifestation of our commitment to the core principles of the United Nations.
Dr. Naseer further went on saying “It is a matter of great satisfaction that the principles and purposes enshrined in the Charter have come to represent the true aspirations of the humanity and stand relevant and useful for the conduct of international relations. On this day, I would like to reiterate IIMSAM’s profound faith and confidence in the UN Charter and express our determination to work for the protection of human dignity and worth of all individuals without distinction as to race, sex, language, color or creed and to fight world hunger and malnutrition problems which are real poltergeist of our contemporary civilization
Speaking on the occasion, IIMSAM Goodwill Ambassador appealed to all Government, celebrities, NGOs and other organizations of the world to come forward with their active and sincere participations to implement UN objectives of solving human problems in all its types and manifestations.

He called upon all members of UN and its all agencies to come out with revised plans and mechanism to deal with all emergent crises like human rights violation, poverty, hunger, malnutrition, global warming, epidemic, and food shortage among others. The activities of the United Nations in maintaining and building world peace and security, the process of global disarmament, stimulating a balanced economic and social progress, and developing human rights protection, to fight world hunger, poverty and malnutrition, to mention some of the more important, are still a proof of the UN’s dedication to the dialogue from which no one should be excluded. “Although global challenges have changed significantly since the founding of the UN, its basic goal remains the same – to build trust among the nations of the world. Let us join today, and not only today, all of those who selflessly promote the ideas of the UN community” he urged.

While urging the member states to strength UN in fighting world hunger and malnutrition problems- which is utmost grave in nature- more than current financial crisis Dr. Naseer said “ IIMSAM is leaving no stones unturned to be a partner on accomplishment of MDG’s of the UN and IIMSAM pleads for the support of world community to help the organization in fighting hunger and malnutrition issues. Spirulina is declared to be the food of future and IIMSAM believe that by extending cultivation, productions and distribution together we can strive to let the hunger and malnutrition to the history.

Calling the support for IIMSAM which is working on eradication of malnutrition and hunger Dr. Naseer urged the member states of the UN to come forward to support IIMSAM in pursuit of its aims and objectives to make this world free from hunger and malnutrition. Dr. Nasser appreciated the task being carried on by IIMSAM team in fighting world hunger and malnutrition through spreading Spirulina under viable and visionary leadership of His Excellency Ambassador Remigio M. Maradona Director General of the IIMSAM and hoped that the organization would reach to its target in fighting these menaces of contemporary world and thus spreading peace, stability and development in the world.
