Clive explains how the web plays an important role in personal branding, and social networking sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn are becoming even more important. He says, “With LinkedIn, you can connect with 43 million professionals in over 200 countries,” he continues, “With Twitter there are now well over 6 million users and it is projected to grow to over 18 million by 2010. With all these people, the chances of networking are endless and connecting to new people can lead to new career opportunities.”

You can choose to take this further and set up your own blog, but the most important thing is to keep your LinkedIn profile up to date. Clive has some top tips for LinkedIn, “Your LinkedIn profile needs to have flawless spelling and grammar. Optimise it as much as possible, and have an appropriate photo uploaded. Also, your LinkedIn URL should contain your full name.”

Most importantly, don’t underestimate the power of social networking sites in helping you promote your personal brand, and take the time to plan a strategy which can help you in your current role and pave the way for future opportunities.
