Invitation: Monuments of War - Battle of Narvik 1940

NARVIK, Norway - Monuments of War - Battle of Narvik 1940 are a number of monuments raised between Bardufoss and Narvik in Northern Norway in order to commemorate the battle of Narvik 1940. The route has also been given the name after the Norwegian General Fleischer, who as the commander of 6th Division was the first to defeat units from Nazi-Germany during World War II.
These monuments will recognise and honour veterans and units from both the Norwegian and foreign countries, who fought in the Battle of Narvik, and will be a contribution to reconciliation between nations.
Six monuments are placed at the following sites: Skjomnes, Bjørnfjell, Herjangen, Øse, Lapphaugen and Bardufoss. Museums in the area will make additional exhibitions.
The opening ceremony will take place at Lapphaugen June 15th at 1300 with His Majesty King Harald in attendance. In addition an opening program will take place in Narvik from 15:45. Veterans, national and foreign governmental representatives and other guests will be present.
In the evening June 14th, there will be a concert in Bardufoss to honour 6th Division which will be phased out by August 2009.
Media is most welcome to this opening ceremony. A press office will be established in Narvik June 14th for accreditation, transport organization and broadband connection.
