- BOKWA Combines Traditional African Dance with Boxing Moves: Trainers are Signing Up by the Hundreds to get Certified
Bokwa Fitness, a US based developer of group exercise fitness classes, announced today that the Company will attempt to set a new Guinness Book of World Record for the largest group exercise class ever in the UK on Sunday.
“Bokwa” which comes from the combination of light Boxing moves and Kwaito, a traditional African style dance, was developed by US certified trainer, Paul Mavi. The workout routine, which is highly energetic and burns as much as 1300 calories per workout, allows users to learn the steps by simply spelling letters and numbers with their feet.
“Because of the simplicity of the basic moves and the tremendous energy and fun that participants have doing Bokwa, certified trainers and instructors around the globe are scrambling to become part of the Bokwa craze,” said Mavi. “We sweat the alphabet, we dance the digits. If you can move and you can spell, you can Bokwa.”
But don’t let the simplicity of the moves fool you. Bokwa comes in progressive intensity levels and has been certified by the leading Group Exercise Certification Organizations around the world, including ACE (American Council of Exercise), AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America), and REPs (Register of Exercise Professionals), which means group exercise instructors receive continuing education credits for completing a training session.
Mavi who launched Bokwa in the US, South Africa, and Taiwan, teamed up with sisters, Cara and Kerri Donaldson of Diamond Dance Centre, to launch Bokwa to instructors in the UK. “Since coming to the UK, in such a short period of time, we have certified over 300 instructors. This is considered a large number in the fitness industry. Instructors were excited about the high energy, intensity, incredible calorie burn and ease of learning the steps.”
“I have been a dancer all my life and teach a variety of group exercise classes. Participants in my classes absolutely love BOKWA and many of them report renewed weight loss when switching to BOKWA, since they typically plateau at some point doing other workouts. BOKWA is simple to learn but extremely energetic and extremely intense, there are very few workouts that will burn up to 1300 calories and there are very few workouts that are more addictive. Try it once and you will be hooked.”
Prominent Group Exercise Instructor and Trainer, Viki Davis, who recently became BOKWA certified, orchestrated the upcoming BOKWATHON that will attempt to set a new Guinness Book of World Records record, which will be held at the Nissan Sports Arena in Sunderland on Sunday, December 11th at 6:30pm. Participants are paying £10. to join the class. “We are donating part of the proceeds to the Deaf Children’s Society, since we use the American Hand Sign Language to lead our classes through the steps during a BOKWA workout,” said Davis. “We are also very excited to have Paul Mavi, the creator of BOKWA, here in the UK to lead the class.”
