Enhancements Allow IP Professionals to Make Better, More Informed Decisions by Providing a More Complete View of Patent-Related Issues

NEW YORK, November 4, 2010 - LexisNexis, a leading global provider of content-enabled workflow
solutions, today announced that its award-winning LexisNexis(R)
TotalPatent(TM) service is the first patent research service to provide users
with direct links to abstracts of non-patent journal articles - offering them
a more complete and efficient view of the information, news and trends
related to patent issues they are managing.

TotalPatent, a past winner of the CODiE Award for Best Online Science or
Technology Service, is a Web-based patent research, retrieval and analysis
service. Powered by the world's largest collection of searchable full-text
and bibliographic patent authorities, it is supported by 24/7 online help.
TotalPatent users now have direct links from search results to article
abstracts from more than 18,000 titles worldwide through Elsevier's
SciVerse(R) Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database containing
both peer-reviewed research literature and quality Web sources. LexisNexis
and Elsevier are both part of Reed Elsevier.

"In conversations and visits with our customers, we learned how valuable
it would be for them to have direct access to non-patent journal articles
without having to leave TotalPatent and conduct those searches
independently," explained Peter Vanderheyden, vice president and managing
director of Global Intellectual Property at LexisNexis. "The latest
TotalPatent enhancements allow our customers to easily identify search
results and gain one-click access to article abstracts from SciVerse Scopus,
enabling them to conduct their research faster and more efficiently."

SciVerse Scopus is populated with journals from more than 5,000
publishers and offers researchers a comprehensive resource to support their
research needs in the scientific, technical, medical, and social sciences
fields, and more recently in the arts and humanities.

Other enhancements to TotalPatent include:

    - Links directly to Chisum on Patents, the world's foremost authority on
      U.S. patent law;

    - Integration with Bizint - users can now export records from their
      TotalPatent work folders into Bizint Smart Charts for Patents;

    - Assignee name normalization - the names on millions of patent records
      from assignees in various countries are now normalized into searchable
      English text; and

    - Enhanced interfaces for the semantic search option with drag and drop
      functionality for easier manipulation of the concepts returned.

Launched in the fall of 2007, TotalPatent is highly regarded by
intellectual property professionals for its comprehensive scope and for the
commitment from LexisNexis to continuous innovation. The LexisNexis product
development team has worked with customers to prioritize the enhancements
introduced to TotalPatent, with new features such as: options for displaying
and delivering English titles and abstracts for non-English records; a
significant expansion of fields available to download; enhancements to
Publication Number searching; launch of an interactive, user-controlled
Semantic Search platform; faster display and downloading of images and PDFs;
and a download manager tool.

"TotalPatent contains more searchable full-text, bibliographic and
English-language machine-translation content than any other patent
information provider," said Vanderheyden. "Moreover, TotalPatent indexes
approximately 200 searchable fields in the database, allowing users to
customize their searches and construct very simple or extremely complex
queries to retrieve the most precise results possible."
