NLPG and NSG Exemplar Award Winners
By Idea And Intelligent Addressing, PRNEWednesday, November 25, 2009
LONDON, November 26 - The Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) and Intelligent Addressing
(IA) have today announced the winners of the 2009 NLPG and NSG Exemplar
Awards. The Awards recognise the innovation, commitment and achievement of
the local authority community, including the police and fire authorities, in
their use of the National Land & Property Gazetteer (NLPG) and National
Street Gazetteer (NSG).
The Awards form part of the NLPG and NSG - 'Underpinning Transformational
Government' conference. The event, which also celebrates the 10th anniversary
of the NLPG, is taking place at the Victoria Park Plaza in London. The Awards
will be presented by Tim Allen, Programme Director, Local Government
Association.
The 2009 NLPG Award winners include local authorities representing
Salford, Nottingham, West Sussex, Tandridge and Blaby, as well as
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue. NSG Award winners are Blackpool Council and the
Isle of Anglesey, with Lichfield and Dartford winning awards for NSG and NLPG
integration.
The NLPG is a modern day Domesday Book for England and Wales that lists
and locates more than 32 million residential, business and non-mailing
addresses each with a unique property reference number (UPRN) which provides
a reference key to join related address records across different datasets. It
enables information to be easily shared and is central to opening up access
to public information at both a local and national level. The NSG is the
sister project to the NLPG providing a central list of streets in England and
Wales.
Together with the NSG, the NLPG represents the most successful example of
a local government shared service delivered nationally. The sharing of
accurate address information across local government departments, emergency
services, national and regional government is a vital component in the drive
to facilitate and improve efficiency and service delivery.

accelerate the speed of improvement of the rest, and develop the sector as a
whole. IDeA has brokered the Mapping Services Agreement (MSA) with
Intelligent Addressing to develop the NLPG and NSG, through the Local
Government Information House (LGIH), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Agency.
Working in partnership with the local government community developing
national infrastructure projects that enable councils to deliver local
services more effectively, LGIH acts as an intermediary between the public
and the private sector enabling it to negotiate with private companies on
behalf of local authorities in order to provide key parts of a technical
infrastructure for improved service delivery.
The NLPG is a joint venture between the Information House and Intelligent
Addressing Limited.
Intelligent Addressing is a specialist private sector consultancy company
employing recognised experts in addressing. It was originally set up to help
develop the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) on behalf of local
